Whether you are a first-time rider or a regular cyclist looking to improve your skills, Ealing Council’s newly appointed training provider Cycling Instructor, offers free cycle training sessions for anyone who lives, works or studies in Ealing.

Build your cycling confidence

Cycling Instructor offers up to four hours of free, one-to-one cycle training and guided rides for every level of cyclist. Sessions with a professional instructor are tailored to your own ability and goals, at a time and place that suits you.

For adults who prefer to learn alongside people of a similar level of cycling, group sessions are available on Saturdays at Southall and Gunnersbury parks between 10.30am and 12noon and 12.05 –1.35pm. Participants can borrow bikes for free at certain training locations.

Group sessions for work, school, faith or community groups are also available to help residents become confident cyclists or trainers themselves.

Holiday courses for children

Cycling is a fun way for children to keep fit while getting around their local area this summer. Cycling training sessions are an opportunity for youngsters to learn to ride a bike safely and to improve their bike riding skills.

Courses are available across the borough for children aged six and above. Parents can join their child on the beginners’ course.

Locations
Hanwell at St Mark’s Primary School – 29 July to 2 August
Acton Park – 31 July to 15 August
Southall Park – 5 to 8 August
Gunnersbury Park – 19 and 30 August

Council leader Julian Bell said: “Cycling is a lot of fun for people of all ages and helps to improve personal health and cut air pollution and traffic congestion.

“Everyone is invited to take part in our free cycling training courses this summer, they are a brilliant way to build up bike confidence and skills and get to know some of the borough’s beautiful off-road routes.”

School cycle training

As part of Transport for London (TfL) Bikeability scheme, the council delivers cycle training to schools that are engaged in TfL’s STARS accreditation programme.

The Bikeability scheme rewards youngsters for taking part in cycle training as they move from primary to secondary school. They can work their way through three levels: From learning to control their bike in a safe, off-road environment; to cycling safely on the road with other traffic on quieter roads; and on to cycling on busier roads and managing complex junctions in London.

If your school is interested in working towards the STARS accreditation programme, email the council’s travel team at sta@ealing.gov.uk

Dr Bike maintenance

Keep your bike in working order this summer with Dr Bike sessions, where experienced mechanics will carry out minor repairs on the spot and give advice on how to look after your bike to keep you riding all year round.

Dr Bike sessions will take place at Hanwell, Acton, West Ealing, Southall and Haven Green. For dates and times visit www.ealing.gov.uk/cycling
