Two estates in Hanwell and South Acton have been awarded at national competitions highlighting the high quality of housing and regeneration in the borough.
Alton Court, the first phase of homes at Copley Hanwell W7 won the ‘Best First-Time Buyer Home’ at the prestigious London Evening Standard New Homes Awards on 19 May and were also awarded ‘Best Showhome’ at the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards in April.
In an incredibly competitive category at the London Evening Standard New Homes Awards, Alton Court was awarded for providing everything that a first-time buyer might need – affordability, plenty of space, great design, energy efficiency and a convenient location, showcasing an outstanding starter home that does not compromise on construction quality and style.
The First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards recognise the lengths that developers, housing associations and their partners go to in order to help aspirational buyers on to the housing ladder. The prize was awarded to the show apartment for giving buyers a realistic depiction of their new home, enabling them to see it at its maximum potential.
The stylish show apartment at Copley Hanwell W7, designed by Artspace Interiors, showcases the high-quality specification and contemporary layout of the new homes at the development.
Artspace used reasonably priced furniture and products available online or from big retailers highlighting that first time buyers on a budget can still make their home look award winning.
Also at the London Evening Standard New Homes Awards, Acton Gardens won ‘Outstanding Approach to Regeneration’.
In partnership with Countryside and L&Q, the council has delivered 616 new homes since 2011, of which over 50% are affordable. T
These homes are being provided on a tenure-blind basis, ensuring quality and equity throughout the development, thus delivering an integrated and harmonious community.
Acton Gardens has been characterised by a commitment to community engagement; from the multi-phased masterplan, to the four full-time professionals on-site ensuring local resident involvement, and the Community Board that will safeguard the sustainable long-term future of the community.
To ensure a socially sustainable future for the area, a genuinely mixed community is being created at Acton Gardens. To achieve this, the aim is for 50% affordable housing, and 26% family housing, along with the provision of new social infrastructure for local residents, including over 13,000 sqm of public space, with new streets, parks, and sports facilities.
Councillor Peter Mason, recently appointed cabinet member for Housing, Planning & Transformation, said: “With houses in such short supply, we’re incredibly proud to have been recognised for our efforts to deliver the homes our residents need. Whether through our resident led estate regeneration, our in-house development company Broadway Living, through our partnerships, these awards will give us the confidence to deliver more.
