Women on wheels

June 1, 2016

A new initiative has been started by Ealing Council to encourage more women to cycle by helping those who would prefer to learn to cycle with other women

The new project is called Ealing Women on Wheels, or Ealing WOW for short. Watch the video above to see why some local women already cycle and are encouraging you to do the same.

Summer is the perfect time for cycling and the council has lined up special events and activities throughout the summer months to encourage women to get cycling. There are plenty of regular bike rides to get involved in, in various parts of the borough.

You can follow news of activities on Twitter using the hashtag #Ealingwow and visit www.ealing.gov.uk/wow to get the latest information. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Ask questions  about cycling and have them answered by cycling experts
  • Find the latest cycling events
  • Gain skills with training opportunities for new cyclists
  • Access offers and discounts for cycle equipment.

Alternatively, you can email travelgreen@ealing.gov.uk to find out more and to sign up to receive email updates with all the latest information about cycle training, bike hire, cycling clubs and rides in the borough.

By getting involved you will also get the chance to benefit from free bike maintenance, online bookings, bike recycling, and much more.

Saredo Mohammed, one of the women in the video, said: “Ealing WOW is  for women of all shapes, sizes and ages, so I recommend you get the trainers out, and find out what is happening in Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, Northolt, Greenford, Acton or Perivale and tell your friends. I am spreading the word about Women on Wheels and following #Ealingwow for updates.”

For other information on cycling in the borough, and how to get free cycle training, visit the cycling pages on the council’s website.
