Free money sounds too good to be true, but if you’re an Ealing landlord and are considering making some home improvements to your rental property, it could be a reality.
Ealing Council is offering up to £5,000 to landlords to make their properties nicer places to live. That could mean a new boiler, a lick of paint, a new bathroom or any other home improvements which will make life better for the home’s tenants.
Direct let scheme
All the landlords have to do in return is agree to let their property through the council’s direct let scheme for at least two years.
This hassle-free, commission-free service pairs them with tenants who are looking for a home. As well as up to £5,000 through the home improvement grants, the council also offers landlords a one-off cash incentive of up to 16 weeks’ rent in advance, as well as an inspection of the property to help make sure it meets all current rules and regulations.
You could get your property licence fee back, if the home needs one. And if all that isn’t enough, the council will even give you £250 towards your landlord insurance.
The process couldn’t be easier. The council provides the landlord with a shortlist of potential tenants. Once you have chosen one, we will mutually agree the rent and then leave you to manage the tenancy.
An increasing number of owners are signing up for the scheme, providing homes for families that are in-work, reliable and just in need of good quality, affordable accommodation.
