An ocean of Disney-themed summer fun is available for families at two leisure centres from today (Friday, 22 July). And women-only fitness classes will be running, too.
Gurnell and Dormers Wells leisure centres – both operated by ‘Better’ on behalf of Ealing Council – will be hosting the sessions inspired by the new Disney Pixar animated film, Finding Dory.
Families will be taught how to dive like Dory, splash like sea lions, and hide like Hank in a series of Finding Dory inspired activities based on core aquatic skills and led by a trained pool instructor.
The bookable sessions, open to families of all ages and abilities, will be available from 22 July until 4 September. Sessions, priced at £3 for adults and £2 for children, will be held at Gurnell Leisure Centre in Ruislip Road East on Wednesdays at 12noon-1pm and Saturdays 1-2pm. The sessions at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre, in Dormers Wells Lane, will be on Wednesdays between 1.30-3.30pm.
Better is organising the activities in association with Disney, the Amateur Swimming Association and Change4Life, across the country.
The first 50,000 children across the UK that attend three sessions will receive a Finding Dory branded swimming bag from reception. All you need to do is collect a loyalty card from reception at your first session which must then be stamped on three separate occasions to qualify for the bag.
To book your session, please visit one of the two participating leisure centres or do it online at www.better.org.uk/finding-dory-ealing
Meanwhile, Gurnell Leisure Centre will also be running an eight-week block of free fitness classes for women only this August and September.
Inspired by the nationwide ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, the centre will be running these classes:
- Group cycling: Every Monday (until 19 September) 11.30am–12.15pm; and every Thursday (until 22 September) 11am–12pm and 2–3pm
- Core stability: Every Friday (until 23 September) 11.35am–12.20pm.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, the council’s cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: “These free classes are a great opportunity for women to get healthy in a relaxed, fun, man-free environment and potentially try something new.”
