A new arts club for children is starting this Saturday (7 January) and promises a wide range of fun activities to try – from music to photography, and from drama to Lego.

The Arts Awards Club will be held at Northolt Leisure Centre Library, in Eastcote Lane North, and is aimed at anyone aged between eight and 13 years old. It will give club members the chance to complete a course called the Explore Arts Award. There is no charge – but a £5 deposit for materials has to be given before they start the course, which will be returned once an arts adviser confirms they have successfully completed the course.

West London Arts Scene (WLAS) is organising the club, which is being funded by the Arts Award Access Fund. WLAS is working with Ealing Council’s libraries service and Cultural Community Solutions, which manages the libraries on the council’s behalf.

It comes after successful trial workshops at the library last summer, when more than 1,300 children and young people took part in arts and crafts, games, and literary and musical events. The club will run every Saturday morning at the library from 7 January until 25 March, between 10.30am-12.30pm.

Club members will have a wide choice of activities to participate in, which include: Photography, digital music, writing, drama, art, storytelling, playing music and Lego design.

WLAS incorporates the Ealing Autumn Festival, whose artistic director Gillian Spragg said: “Such a big selection of arts activity in the same place makes this ideal for young people so sign up for an Arts Award.

“Youngsters are encouraged to take on board a number of different activities and find out more about the artists that practice them. Northolt Leisure Centre Library is the perfect place for this and, at the end, we hope we will be able to award plenty of certificates to enthusiastic young arts people.”
