The rainbow flag is flying at Ealing Town Hall to celebrate Pride in London.
The Pride in London Parade is taking place on Saturday, 7 July, an annual celebration of the LGBT+ community. It is the biggest LGBT+ parade in the UK, with thousands of people travelling the route either by foot or on floats. This year’s parade will be led by the Mayor of London.
Pride is an opportunity for LGBT+ Londoners to celebrate their diversity and equality whilst continuing to fight for an end to the discrimination and violence that remains a reality for many.
In the weeks leading up to the Pride march, the Pride in London Festival has played host to 100+ LGBT+ events across London demonstrating the diversity, creativity and resourcefulness of the capital’s LGBT+ community. The Pride parade will be followed on Sunday by UK Black Pride – billed as Europe’s largest celebration for African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean-heritage LGBTQ people.
To support and celebrate Pride in London, the leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Julian Bell and LGBT+ councillors raised the rainbow flag above Ealing Town Hall.
Newly elected LGBT+ Councillors, Deirdre Costigan and Lewis Cox said; “We are proud that Ealing is supporting London Pride and working to ensure that it’s achievements and values are lived every day in our diverse and welcoming community where LGBT+ people can live, work and play in a safe and inclusive environment.”
Councillor Bell said: “Ealing is a global and inclusive borough where we celebrate the huge contribution our many LGBT+ residents make to our social, economic and political life. I hope everyone attending the Pride parade on Saturday or UK Black Pride on Sunday has a wonderful day and stays safe.”
The parade takes place in central London and sets off from Portland Place at 12noon, moving down Oxford Circus, along Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall and then passing Trafalgar Square before finishing on Whitehall. The parade is anticipated to finish at 5pm.
UK Black Pride takes place on Sunday in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, SE11 5HL from 12noon-8pm.
