Help yourself, by helping others

Help yourself, by helping others

May 2, 2018

As part of national Volunteer Week, an Ealing Volunteers Fair is being held on Saturday, 9 June. It could be a great way for you to help yourself, by helping others.

That is because volunteering not only helps others in the community – it can help you personally, too. For some people it can be a route to employment, or a chance to boost their CV or to try something new that may lead to a career change. It is a great way to make friends, as well.

The event will run between 2-4pm and is to be held at The Rickyard, near the children’s play area in Walpole Park, Ealing, (W5 5BS).

It is free to attend and you will be able to find out about volunteering opportunities in the borough from a large number of charities.

‘It has helped me with getting back to work’

Genny, volunteer for Help Through Crisis Ealing, said volunteering made a big difference to her life.

She said: “I needed help financially so I went to a food bank and I met a volunteer there who helped me a lot. Help Through Crisis Ealing has helped me with getting back to work, with getting my CV done and with my website. I don’t think I would have been able to get the website done without them.

“So now I’m volunteering for Help Through Crisis Ealing. I would definitely recommend it because there’s different help for different people because we all have very specific needs. If anyone goes to the food bank with a certain need I know that Help Through Crisis Ealing will try their best. I’ve personally experienced what can be done and how you can be helped and I’ve met other people with similar needs so it’s good to know I’m not by myself.”
