Local people can give their garden the perfect gift by grabbing some free compost at Walpole Park’s annual Big Compost Giveaway event next month.
The Giveaway takes place on Saturday 12 May from 8am at the Mattock Lane entrance of Walpole Park and those attending should bring a wheelbarrow or something similar to take home their compost.
Plant sales and a seed exchange will also take place on the day as part of the Big Compost Giveaway.
A number of other events are also being held in Walpole Park over the coming months from fun family events to activities to learn about our local wildlife.
The annual Big Lunch takes place on Sunday 3 June between 11am and 3pm. Local people are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy a get-together with the local community, complete with story-telling, crafts and music.
There is also Walpole’s Walkies in the Park event on Sunday 24 June, from 1pm to 4pm – which is perfect for dog lovers and dogs alike. It encourages responsible ownership through a fun, amateur dog show with rosettes and prizes to win, advice and training tips.
Walpole Park also plays host to many other activities including a summer tree walk on Saturday 9 June at 10am, regular birdwatching walks (usually third Saturday of each month) twice weekly volunteer gardening sessions throughout the year and monthly bat walks in the summer. It is a great way to enjoy and learn about the local wildlife and get more from being outdoors in Walpole Park.
