Give yourself an early Christmas present with an exclusive fitness voucher to get you started at a local leisure centre. And, why not give a health trainer a try, free of charge, to help you begin the year in a positive and active frame of mind?
FREE CLASS, SESSION OR SWIM
If you have been meaning to try your hand at a new sport or activity, or are thinking of turning over a new leaf in 2018, why not take advantage of our reader offer as part of the council’s Get Moving campaign to try something new, for free?
It is simple. The December edition of Around Ealing magazine contains a voucher. Fill in your details on the voucher and then take it, or the whole page, along to any of the council’s leisure centres (run by Better or Everyone Active) before 28 February 2018 to claim one free exercise class, gym session or individual or family swim. If you do not have a copy of the magazine, you can print off a PDF version and follow the same process.
ACTIVE FOR 150 MINUTES A WEEK
The NHS recommends adults should be active for 150 minutes a week, but that does not need to be two-and-a-half hours of sport. All activity that raises your heart-rate counts, including things like gardening, walking or playing with children in the park – and even walking briskly for just 10 continuous minutes counts.
ONE-TO-ONE HELP TO FIND A HEALTHIER YOU
If you feel like you could be a bit fitter, but need a helping hand to get started, you can get free one-to-one advice from a health trainer.
If you want to make some changes to your lifestyle and become more active, the One You scheme, run by Ealing Council in partnership with West London Mental Health Trust, will put you in touch with a personal health trainer.
Anissa Hared, one of the borough’s qualified health trainers, said: “Once someone gets in touch with us we will sit down with them for around 45 minutes to assess their health and lifestyle. We find out about their routine, help them to set some goals and, together, we put together a plan for how they are going to make those changes to improve their health.
“For some people a few simple things will make a difference to their fitness; for others it might be a bigger change, but the important thing is making sure the goals are achievable and realistic.
“It’s a great service that makes a real difference and I think people are often surprised that it’s free for any Ealing residents to use.”
Health trainers will:
- Carry out a lifestyle assessment, including height and weight measurement, waist circumference and check your body mass index (BMI) to assess if you are a healthy weight
- Plan your changes and develop your personal health plan
- Provide tailored advice based on your lifestyle assessment
- Tell you about other services that you might find helpful.
You can book the service yourself by calling 0300 456 0556 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
